The “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (PPIMC), Iași,

is a center of excellence of the Romanian Academy, and one of the most prestigious research institutions in Romania, with a tradition of more than seven decades in polymer chemistry and advanced materials. Founded in 1949, the institute has continuously evolved, becoming a national and international reference point in the study of macromolecules, functional materials, and their applications in biomedicine, environmental protection, and industry.

Scientific activity at the institute takes place in modern laboratories equipped with state of the art instrumentation for synthesis of polymers, structural analysis, advanced material preparation, physico chemical characterization and properties investigation. This research infrastructure enables complex studies ranging from the synthesis of new chemical compounds to the development of intelligent systems for controlled release of active substances, biocompatible materials, functional nanostructures, and innovative technologies with impact in health and environmental fields.

The institute brings together a community of researchers with diverse expertise in macromolecular chemistry, polymeric materials, biopolymers, supramolecular chemistry, nanomaterials, bioactive interfaces, and biomedical applications.
