”Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, in collaboration with the European Chitin Society, is organizing a summer school entitled “EUCHIS International School on Chitosan: One Biopolymer – Plenty of Possibilities” in Iași, Romania, from 26 October to 1 November 2026. The school is co funded by the European Union through the PIOChitIns project and aims to bring together students, young researchers, and specialists interested in chitosan—its production, characterization, properties, and wide range of applications.
The School will provide participants with an opportunity to explore the fundamental aspects of chitosan, as well as recent developments and emerging applications of this versatile biopolymer. Through lectures, scientific presentations, practical activities, and discussions with experts, participants will gain a deeper understanding of chitosan-based materials and their potential applications in different fields of science and technology.
Located in eastern Romania, Iași is one of the country's major academic and cultural centers and has a long-standing university tradition. The city provides an inspiring setting for an international scientific event, combining a vibrant academic environment with a rich cultural heritage. Participants will have the opportunity to discover Iași and its surroundings while taking part in social, cultural, and recreational activities organized alongside the scientific programme.
In addition to the scientific programme, the School will encourage interaction and scientific exchange among participants, creating opportunities to share knowledge, discuss research challenges, and develop new ideas and collaborations. The programme will combine academic activities with informal social and cultural experiences, allowing participants to learn, network, and explore Iași in an international and welcoming environment.
The School will also include a dedicated social programme, with a trip to the northern region of Moldova - Romania, offering participants the chance to discover its landscapes, monasteries, and historical landmarks.
The School will take place from Monday, October 26th, to Sunday, November 1st, 2026, offering a full week dedicated to chitosan, scientific exchange, networking, and the exploration of Iași and its cultural heritage.
