Innovative Process for the Production of Chitosan and By-Products from Insects

The general objective of the project is the development and transfer to industry, during the period 2026–2029, of three innovative technologies:

A technology for the production of chitosan from puparium biomass and Black Soldier Fly insects

A technology for the production of biomass from puparium and Black Soldier Fly insects, required for chitosan production

A technology for the production of complementary feed formulations for veterinary use.

Development and optimization of the process for obtaining chitosan and, as a secondary product, melanin from puparium and insects

Development of products at the experimental level

Development of a national/international cooperation network focused on chitosan and its applications in the pharmaceutical, medical, and industrial fields.
